TOM SWIFT AND HIS
MEGASCOPE SPACE PROBER
by VICTOR APPLETON II
“Tom! Someone has stolen your in- vention!” Bud Barclay tells his pal Tom Swift. And when an engineer in France publically demonstrates a remarkable machine that changes the properties of matter, it seems Bud is right. The authorities suspect that another stolen invention, the stealth drone known as the Eyeballer, is involved. But the device has been designed to be un- stoppable!
Meanwhile Bud is given the oppor- tunity to pilot a months-long manned probe to the planet Venus — not with Tom in an Enterprises craft, but in a ship designed by a rival company. Tom pro- mises to follow Bud's historic flight by perfecting his megascope space prober, a mighty eye that uses a technique science has deemed impossible to “keep an eye on the universe.”
When another of Tom's new inven- tions, his Private Ear Radio, is repli- cated, Tom devotes all his youthful genius to unmasking and defeating his foes and the mastermind behind them. But what challenge will prove hardest for Tom to overcome? — climbing the sheer wall of a skyscraper, mounting a fantastic rescue operation in outer space — or flying an igloo?
