TOM SWIFT AND HIS
AQUATOMIC TRACKER
by VICTOR APPLETON II
An image
snatched from space draws young Tom Swift into a strange and excit- ing
mystery beneath the North Atlantic!
The video image of a drowning Roman may portend
terrorist action by a covey of European agents — a suspicion that
seems confirmed by the inexplicable sinking of the supertanker
Centurion and the disap- pearance of the wreck from the ocean floor.
Just as Tom begins to fulfill his promise to crack the code buried in
the image, he receives grim news: his best friend Bud has been caught up
in the catastrophic ruin of a Swedish engineering project in which Swift
Enterprises is a crucial partner.
To follow the subsea trail, Tom devises an ingenious
underwater tracking system. The invention leads the young inventor and
his friends to a seamount near Iceland and to near death in the
icy deep.
The trail leads on to London, to Paris, to a secret lab
compound on the coast of Spain, and to a question: What is
Confi- guration Eighteen? It is only after Tom completes and perfects
his aquatomic tracker that the trail comes to an explosive end, high
above the waves — and in the cold blue depths below.
