TOM SWIFT AND HIS
POLAR-RAY DYNASPHERE
by VICTOR APPLETON II
When one
of Tom Swift's closest friends vanishes in turbulent Pakistan, the young
inventor is thrust into a world of mystery, intrigue, and deadly danger!
The frightening incident leads to an invitation by a royal prince to
visit Vishnapur, an ancient kingdom in the high Himalayas troubled by
secret plotters and the destructive effects of a poisonous lake that may
cloak treasures of the country's lost past.
First Tom must solve a scientific crisis. A robot probe circling
Titan, the huge moon of distant Saturn, has begun to undergo mysterious
shifts in its orbit. Unless Tom can prevent the Kronus satellite from
plunging into the Titanian atmosphere, nuclear contamination could doom
future space-science research. The solution may rest with the youth's
new invention, the dynasphere — if he can perfect a version powerful
enough to reach across billions of miles of space, and a new spacecraft
able to carry it.
But success in deep space may depend upon detective work in
exotic Vishnapur, as Tom and his friend Bud Barclay run up against
ruthless men who
deal death and throw lightning at the sky in the name of Yamantaka — the
trickster demon-god!
