TOM SWIFT AND HIS
SUBOCEAN GEOTRON
by VICTOR APPLETON II
A FANTASTIC artifact from
the depths of the South Pacific leads Tom Swift to a mystery from the
depths of time. The find, one of two matched pieces, is a beacon, clue
to the location of a cache of scientific data buried beneath the sea
more than two hundred million years in the past!
Tom's extraterrestrial contacts urge the young inventor to recover
the lost memory crypt. But other space beings also seek it and have
enlisted their own human agents, murderous plotters with scientific
expertise. If the Others reach the crypt first, the deadly consequences
will spread beyond Earth to other worlds.
To probe beneath the subocean floor Tom designs his
geotron, a manned mole-mobile that can penetrate the solid ground like a
tunneling torpedo. The first field test goes ominously awry — Tom
and his pal Bud are trapped amid bedrock deep below ground.
The mystery takes the two, with the reckless adventurer who
discovered the beacon artifact, to the distant Pacific. There Tom
struggles to unravel the meaning of a phantom Wheel of Light, and to
outwit his enemies on Easter Island, whose ancient, brooding heads of
stone watch the ocean in silence, the ocean that cloaks a treasure
bearing the secret of life! |
