TOM SWIFT AND HIS
HUMANPLIFYING EXOSUIT
by VICTOR APPLETON II
A runaway
crisis during the preliminary testing of Tom Swift's newest invention
foreshadows thrills and danger to come.
The exosuit — a mammoth robotcraft- for-two developed
for the exploration of treacherous planetary environments —
amplifies human abilities to the extent of allowing its operator to
control it directly by means of his own brain. To prove its powers and
discover its limits, Tom and his pal Bud embark on a cross- country road
trip that excites the imagination of the public.
Two strange threats beset Tom's field test of Koku, as
the young inventor has named his machine. A mutant molecule,
undetectable, endangers the world's supply of microchip silicon. More
bizarre is the Nonsense Wave, a string of bank robberies involving
senseless actions and sudden death.
Tom and Bud match wits with a violent militia, struggle
to prevent a suicide leap from a skyscraper, and perform a fantastic
stunt on the Golden Gate Bridge. But the youths are unpre- pared for the
moment when Koku himself seizes control and attacks San Francisco with a
will of his own!
